January 25, 2008 - My first concert of 2008 should have been my second.  Unfortunately, I was not able to catch the first one, Blonde Redhead, due to school.  But Cornelius more
than made up for it.  I have known about Cornelius for a while now, but never got into his music.  I saw he was playing at the
930 club, so i bought a ticket and got his newest Cd,
Sensuous.  Upon first listen, I asked myself this question; how the hell was
Cornelius going to pull this off live?  What an album, a mix of electronics, and live instrumentation, with
singing in
Cornelius language of Japanese.  I had high expectations for this, and he did not disappoint.  The first thing to point out was the bands outfits.  They all wore matching
plaid shirts, with grey ties, matching jeans, and hats.  A different hat for each member.  The second thing to point out was the visuals.  The whole show had a background that went
PERFECTLY to the music.  Someone spent a lot of time with those videos.  The videos ranged from a background of flying ducks, to scenes of boxers.  There were clay figures,
and kids, and walking hands.  Everything was fantastic, to say the least.  The videos accented the bands music perfectly.  My personal favorite was a video of lips singing the
songs, with blocks forming the Japanese words.  It was art and learning all at once.  They played a set over a hour and a half, with the songs spaced out so it was never too much
fast paced, avant garde, or slow songs at once.  The set was heavy with new songs, and the crowd was eating it up.  It was a pretty respectful crowd, not a lot of talking going on.
All in all, it was great performance. Another highlight was the theremin.  Cornelius pulled a person out of the crowd to help him play the theremin on one of their songs.  The guy
was beaming a smile the whole time.  After he finished, he got a hug from the singer, and a Lei from the bassist.   I definitely recommend catching them on this tour, as you will not
be disappointed.  If you don't get
Cornelius, however, stay away, it might be a little too much to handle.
